Low cost house constructed using StyroFrame for South African International Housing Innovation and Sustainable Energy Efficiency Competition 2009 Absa Home Loans, in collaboration with the NHBRC, Drakenstein Municipality, AFD and NHFC are running the competition and a building has been constructed by Winterstrand Construction cc using the StyroFrame building system. A planning application has been submitted for a new "Passive" house in Brighton.

The house will be built to PassivHaus standards, the worlds leading standard in energy efficient construction and the project aim will be used as a test bed for the technology required to produce a carbon neutral house in line with the Governments stated policy aims. Service connections and plant infrastructure will be installed during construction to allow the installation and monitoring of various means of heating and power generation, Fuel cells, photovoltaic solar panels, Solar water heating, small scale CHP, Ground heat storage, heatpumps and small scale wind generation are among the options to be evaluated.
